Natal Astrology from the Arabic Tradition, 800-1100
The History, Theory and Application of Techniques from Abu Ma'shar, Al Qabisi, Ibn Labban, and Al Biruni
What does this class look like?
This is a history and natal astrology foundational course, based on the works of Abu Ma’shar, Al Qabisi, Ibn Labban, and Al Biruni.
The class begins with the history of the astrologers and the regions they worked in, providing historical context for their works.
By the end of the class, the student will understand the prevailing cosmology and worldview of the astrologers in question, and how to analyze and synthesize natal charts using their techniques and methods.
This is a reading and discussion based seminar, so students are expected to read before class and come to class ready for discussion. The weekly reading load will likely be 30-40 pages, with much supplementary content for the eager learner.
The class provides access to a dedicated Telegram community channel, in which discussions and community can be built outside of the classroom.
The final two class sessions will be practica, in which the students exclusively work on analyzing natal charts together.
The class is capped at 15 students to facilitate a safe, inclusive, and intensive learning environment.
